International Experiences

A world-class education means embracing global citizenship. IUPUI Honors Scholars know that their future is one that includes opportunities and challenges beyond our national borders. Study abroad, participation with collaborative programs with our partner institutions in other countries, and taking courses designed to raise global awareness prepare Honors Scholars to make a difference throughout the world.

Study Abroad in Mexico
Study abroad means cultural immersion, and includes service and learning experiences.

Imagine the possibilities...

Study abroad through one of IUPUI's 40 different study abroad programs. Semester long, summer, or short term international experiences are available through IUPUI. You can also participate in programs through other IU campuses and receive direct IU credit. As an IUPUI student, you also have the option of studying abroad through other accredited universities with pre-approval from IUPUI.

Collaborative programs and strategic international partnerships such as that with Moi University in Kenya led to the creation of AMPATH, the Academic Model Providing Access to Healthcare which has led to treatment of over 70,000 HIV-positive patients urban and rural Kenya. The hub of IUPUI's partnership with Sun Yat-sen University, China, is the Confucius Institute in Indianapolis, which promotes the study of Chinese language and culture in Central Indiana and promotes ties of friendship and cooperation between the U. S. and China. The IUPUI-Universidad Autonomo del Estado de Hidalgo strategic partnership in Mexico builds on the decade-long collaboration between the IU Schools of Medicine, Nursing, and Dentistry in the village of Calnali, Mexico. The centerpiece of the new, expanding collaboration is the Binational Cross-Cultural Health Enhancement Center, a Signature Center at IUPUI. Students at IUPUI regularly participate in programs, research, and exchanges with these partners.

Internationalized coursework at IUPUI allows Honors Scholars to enhance their ability to live an increasingly multicultural environment in the United States of America. An internationalized curriculum fosters learning concepts from a different perspective, using knowledge from other traditions, developing intercultural communication skills, and emergence of positive attitudes toward diverse cultures.
