IUPUI is Indiana's premier urban research university. The campus enrolls more than 30,000 students in 21 schools and academic units.
Jennifer Phan, a graduate of the a psychology program in the Purdue School of Science, plans to become a pediatrician, and prepared for that goal by both working and volunteering at Riley Hospital for Children on the IUPUI campus.
Phan, ranked IUPUI's number-one female student during the 2004-05 and 2003-04 academic years, was a regular on the dean's list and received numerous scholarships and leadership awards.
She was active in shaping IUPUI's growing campus life, serving as a member of the Student Activities Programming Board and the Honors Club, and helps organize the annual IUPUI Dance Marathon fund-raising event.
In addition to her volunteer work for Riley, St. Vincent Hospital and the United Way Day of Caring, she worked in Riley's infant language lab, testing her interest in a research-related career by studying how language dialects affect an infant's ability to recognize words.
