Add depth to your degree

Honors-designated coursework is available in a number of academic areas.

You'll have the opportunity to pursue Honors-level courses within your major or minor, work closely with faculty on a scholarly or creative senior experience, and gain valuable research experience to prepare you for graduate or professional study.

And you'll gain a greater understanding of the world through service learning, civic engagement, culture studies, and study abroad experiences.

Students work with their school and Honors advisors to meet degree requirements and complete an academic plan that leads to graduation with Honors.

Honors students may complete Honors contracts to create a special Honors project, with approval of the faculty member for that course. Students complete the requirements for the course plus the requirements identified in the contract. The student receives one grade for the entire course, and the instructor or faculty member determines the composition of that grade.

Students should print the contract from the student portal, fill it out, and submit it to the Honors College office for approval no later than the end of the third week of classes during fall and spring semesters and no later than the end of the first week of classes during a summer session. Upon approval, the IUPUI Registrar adds "Above Class Taken for Honors Credit" below the title of the course on the student's transcript.

There are several ways to earn Honors credits.

Honors courses are offered each semester and students require prior authorization from an Honors College staff member in order to be able to register for them. Students should check the Registrar's website for a list of available Honors courses.

Departmental research and capstone courses also provide students with the opportunity to pursue Honors-level study within their disciplines. An Honors Contract Form for departmental research and capstone courses is required.

Students also may receive Honors credit for student teaching, senior design courses, internships, and co-op experiences. Students must submit the Honors Contract Form in order to receive Honors credit for these experiences.

Graduate coursework enables students to become familiar with graduate education while delving further into their major field. An application for applying graduate coursework to the general Honors notation is required.

Approved international experiences develop informed and global leaders. Through IUPUI Honors College-approved study abroad programs, Honors students are provided with an additional option for obtaining Honors credit abroad. For more information, contact Dr. Ian McIntosh in the Honors College at
