Application checklist

Incoming freshmen may apply online for competitive scholarships to the Honors College.

The application is six pages long. You have the option to save your work and return to the form at a later time. You may apply for one or more of our scholarships through one application.

Essay(s)

Each scholarship has a different essay topic. You must type or copy and paste your essay directly into the online application. 

In a 400 to 600-word essay, please explain why you want to attend IUPUI and why it is important to you to be a member of the IUPUI Honors College.

In an 800 to 1000-word essay, discuss the importance and purpose of providing service to others. Describe your involvement with service and what you have learned from those experiences. How do you plan to integrate a commitment to service into your college experience? Describe how a commitment to service will help you accomplish your personal and professional goals at IUPUI and the Honors College.

In an 800 to 1000-word essay, discuss a successful leadership experience you have had during high school. Describe the skills that make you a successful leader and how you developed them. How do you plan to get involved and use these skills to help you accomplish your personal and professional goals at IUPUI  and the Honors College?

In an 800 to 1000-word essay, discuss the importance of globalization and cross-cultural competency. What have you done to improve your global awareness and understanding of different cultures? As a Plater International Scholar at IUPUI  and the Honors College, what international experiences would you like to pursue and why?

Scholarship résumé

A scholarship résumé includes one or two pages that highlight involvement, leadership, and/or volunteer activities you participated in during high school. Include start and end dates. You may also include academic as well as other achievements and accomplishments.

You must type or copy and paste your résumé directly into the online application.

Students who wish to apply for only the Chancellor’s Scholarship do not need to submit a scholarship résumé.

Letters of recommendation

The online application requires that you provide your recommender’s name, affiliation, and email address. Upon submitting your application, your recommenders will receive an email explaining how to submit a letter of recommendation. Applicants and recommenders will also receive a confirmation email when each recommendation letter is submitted.

Please provide your recommenders with adequate time to prepare your letters to ensure we receive them by November 15 at 5 p.m. EST.

Two letters are required:

  • One letter from an academic professional, such as a teacher or counselor
  • One letter from someone who can attest to your character, motivation, and prospect for success at IUPUI, such as a coach, volunteer coordinator, or mentor
  • Recommenders cannot be family members.

Students who wish to apply for only the Chancellor’s Scholarship do not need to submit letters of recommendation. 

SAT/ACT results

You will enter your scores. Official documentation is not required. If relevant, please provide future test dates. We will accept your superscore for standardized tests.
