INDIANAPOLIS, Ind., September 7, 2022—When Karlie visited IUPUI, she felt a sense of belonging and chose the university for its professional opportunities, especially in research. To Karlie, the Bepko scholars are a group of leaders that benefit the community around them. She hopes to continue her passion of service by helping children in the area and advocating for mental health awareness. Karlie has experience tutoring elementary students and volunteering with children at the YMCA in her community. After graduating high school a semester early, Karlie took a job at a developmental therapy clinic, giving her real world experience in her current field of study. She became a Registered Behavioral Technician in June and finds her job very rewarding. Karlie plans to continue making a difference in the lives of children through her work in mental health and advocacy at IUPUI.
